Resources concerning Water Quality and Sustainability of Water Supply

Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin

The Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB) was created with an interstate compact established by Congress in 1940 to help the Potomac basin states and the federal government to enhance, protect, and conserve the water and associated land resources of the Potomac River basin through regional and interstate cooperation. The website includes downloadable educational materials from a workshop on water resources management that among other things furnishes a concise introduction to the geology and hydrology of the Potomac River basin. http://www.potomacriver.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=172&Itemid=163

Groundwater Virginia

This site is maintained by Frank Fletcher, Ph.D., FGSA, who spoke to the 2010 Conference on threats to the water supply in Virginia’s Coastal Plain.  The site furnishes an expert orientation to groundwater hydrology, the regulatory scheme for groundwater in Virginia, and current development proposals that may adversely affect the sustainability of the Coastal Plain groundwater supply.
