Sustaining Virginia's Water Supply: Challenges and Strategies

The 2011 Conference Convened by the Committee on Stewardship of Creation will continue a dialogue commenced at the 2010 Conference.  The 2010 Conference gave particular attention to threats to a sustainable water supply in Virginia's Coastal Plain because of the dependence of that region on non-renewable groundwater resources that were under increasing stress from a growing population.  Thw 2011 Conference will convene at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Richmond, Virginia, on September 10, 2011.

The speakers at the 2011 Conference include representatives of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Geological Survey, a highly-regarded Virginia environmental lawyer recently honored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as Enviroonmentalist of the Year, and two architects whose practices emphasize green technologies in sustainable building and landscape design.  The 2011 Conference will complement 2010 Conference by giving water supply and water quality issues in the Piedmont and Lower Shenandoah Valley greater attention and by additonal coverage of technologies that churches and their members can implement to make a positive difference.
